I have always loved the work of the Dutch designer Marcel Wanders, a connection that goes beyond design, perhaps because of my Dutch heritage. But it’s also his endless creative energy, the way ideas seem to spin off one another creating a legacy of high style, and innovation. The visual excitement and sumptuousness is amazing, and inspired my recent design workshop in Holland seen below, a colorful infusion of avant garde style, painterly blues and elegance.
So after hearing of my admiration for this Dutch designer, you can imagine my delight when he introduced the Blue Ming dinnerware collection by Vista Alegre! An incredible collaboration between Marcel Wanders and the famed Portuguese porcelain and crysta factory. Vista Alegre makes some of the globes most creative and artistic dinnerware collections for top designers such as Marcel Wanders and Christian Lacroix to boast! Hopefully for myself included one day. Hint, hint..
We styled this beautiful setting into a bright and colorful Blue Ming Celebration Collections perfect for spring! Easter table anyone? With our curated Celebration Collections, we allow you to shop a complete tablesetting with a single click versus having to find all of the pieces you want. Simple? yes! Now back to the object of my design crush.
Wanders is known for his synthesis of historical motifs with contemporary sensibilities, and reflects the designer’s vision to create useful beautiful objects. Need a bit of this gorgeous blend of contemporary style and elegant tradition? Well, this is to be found as total perfection in Wander’s Blue Ming dinnerware collection. The series is an innovative and gorgeous avant garde take on classical delftware.
The spectacular Blue Ming Collection takes elements from Ming Dynasty Porcelain and combines this historic beauty with the aesthetic of traditional Dutch artistry.
The result is unexpected: detailed color and pattern with a punch. Nominated for the German Design Awards, 2017, the collection symbolically reflects the rich cultural heritage of China and Holland, in sculptural symmetry.
On a wonderfully grand scale, Wanders’ distinctive look is also on display at the unprecedented design icon the Andaz Amsterdam Hotel – a rich luxurious display of Wanders’ talent including blue and white Delft Inspired imagery and an admixture of pop art, rococo, and contemporary design.
Wanders style eludes a specific description entirely, it is constantly in flux, but I might say it is absolutely baroque, full of poetry, elements of fantasy, all woven together into a spectacle of beauty and style. One rather is in waiting constantly for his next idea, the newest embodiment of art in design.”
So, whether you simply love the luxe of traditional blue and white, or yearn for art pieces for your design collection: go for artistry, avant garde style, and real timeless elegance and heirloom beauty with the Blue Ming Collection a luxe collaboration between Vista Alegre and contemporary designer Marcel Wanders.
